Children's Privacy & COPPA
Last updated: July 4, 2026
Code for Real is made for kids. A child can learn to code with it without ever handing over a single piece of personal information, because the App does not collect any.
Code for Real collects no personal information from children, or from anyone. There are no accounts, no ads, no network, and no tracking. Everything a child makes stays on their device.
What this means for your child
- No sign-up. The App never asks for a name, an email, a phone number, or a password. Your child just opens it and starts building.
- No network. The App works fully offline. The lessons, images, and code are all bundled inside it, so nothing your child does is sent over the internet.
- No ads. There is no advertising of any kind, and no ad networks that could profile your child.
- No tracking or analytics. The App uses no third-party analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting tools. It assigns no advertising ID and no device identifier.
- No sharing. There are no chats, comments, public profiles, or social features. Your child cannot contact strangers, and strangers cannot contact your child.
- Stays on the device. Your child's projects and progress are saved only on the device and are never uploaded anywhere.
How we comply with COPPA
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) governs the online collection of personal information from children under 13. Its requirements, such as obtaining verifiable parental consent, apply when an app collects personal information from a child.
Code for Real collects no personal information from children (or anyone) at all. There is nothing to consent to, nothing stored on a server, and nothing that could be shared or sold. Because we don't collect personal information, the App is designed to fall squarely within COPPA's guidance for apps that do not gather data from children.
What we would do if that ever changed
If a future version of Code for Real ever needed to collect any personal information from children, we would first update this page and our Privacy Policy, clearly describe what would be collected and why, and put a verifiable parental-consent step in place before any collection began. We have no plans to do so.
For parents and teachers
Because nothing is collected, there is no child data for you to review, correct, or delete from us. If you want to remove everything your child has made in the App, deleting the App from the device clears its local data. If you have any questions about how the App handles your child's privacy, we are happy to answer them.
